Best Time of Year to Replace Windows in Louisiana

There's no single "best month" to replace windows in Louisiana. Crews install year-round, and a window that's leaking, stuck or fogged shouldn't wait for perfect weather. Timing still matters, though. Most replacement windows are made to order, hurricane season runs half the year, and summer here is hot and stormy.
The trick is to plan backward from when you want the windows in, not from when you call.

Why timing starts with the order, not the install
Most replacement windows are built to order for each opening. That's how ProVia, NT Windows and the other brands we install handle replacement products. A typical project goes like this:
Estimate and measurement. Someone looks at every opening and talks through styles, glass and storm options.
Order. The manufacturer builds each window to the confirmed size.
Delivery and install. The crew removes the old units, installs the new ones and finishes the trim.
Step 2 is the one you can't rush. Lead times vary by manufacturer, product line, options and time of year. Impact products, special colors and custom shapes can change the timeline. Ask for an estimated lead time in writing when you get your proposal, and ask how the installer will keep you updated.
Hurricane season: June 1 to November 30
The National Hurricane Center defines the Atlantic hurricane season as June 1 through November 30. NHC's climatology puts the peak around September 10, with most activity from mid-August to mid-October.
What that means for planning:
If storm protection is your main goal, start the conversation in late winter or spring. That gives time to measure, order and install impact windows or doors before the busiest weeks of the season.
Installs don't stop in summer, but a storm in the Gulf can move the schedule. Ask how your installer handles weather delays and protects open openings if conditions change.
After a storm hits the area, demand for windows, doors and contractors usually climbs. Lead times and schedules can stretch.
If you're comparing impact windows with shutters, read our impact windows vs. storm shutters guide first. The choice affects what you order and how long it takes.
Heat, humidity and summer storms
Louisiana summers are long, hot and humid, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Summer installs are common, and a few practical points help:
Each opening is open for only part of the job. You'll lose some cool air while a window is out, but the house isn't left wide open all day.
Weather can shift the day's plan. Heavy rain and lightning can pause outdoor work. Ask your installer how they handle it.
Sealants and flashing materials have the manufacturer's application conditions. A careful crew follows them in any season.
Summer is also when poor windows are easiest to spot. If certain rooms bake in the afternoon or the AC runs nonstop, write it down. Those notes help us recommend glass. Our energy-efficient windows guide explains Low-E glass and solar heat gain.
Fall and winter: often a comfortable time to plan
Once the peak of hurricane season passes, many homeowners find late fall and winter a comfortable time for estimates and installs. The weather is milder, and there's time to get windows in before the next season starts.
Two things to keep in mind:
The holidays fill calendars, yours and everyone else's. If you want work done before family visits, start early.
Insurance timing. Louisiana insurers must offer new FORTIFIED discounts no later than January 1, 2027, on new or renewed policies issued on or after that date. Windows alone don't earn a FORTIFIED designation, but opening protection is part of FORTIFIED Silver. Read our FORTIFIED and insurance guide and talk with your insurer about your renewal date.
A season-by-season planning guide
When | Good time to... |
January to March | Get estimates, choose products, order impact windows or doors you want before storm season |
April to May | Install before the season opens; finalize any phased plans |
June to August | Install standard or impact windows; note hot rooms for glass choices |
Mid-August to mid-October | Expect schedules to flex around tropical weather; plan ahead for any work that can wait |
November to December | Estimates and installs after the peak; plan around the holidays |
Don't wait if something is failing
Some problems shouldn't sit for the "right" season:
Water coming in around a window or door, or soft, stained trim
Broken glass or a window that won't lock
A bedroom window that won't open, which matters for emergency escape
Our signs it's time to replace guide covers more. If the budget doesn't stretch to the whole house, phasing the project can put the problem openings first.
Making the timing work for your budget
Some homeowners wait because they're waiting on the money, not the weather. We offer financing through Wisetack, and Wisetack says checking your eligibility doesn't affect your credit score. Terms depend on your approval. Our finance page has the details, or you can check your options with Wisetack.
How to get started

Use our installation prep checklist the week before install.

Frequently asked questions
Can windows be installed during hurricane season?
Yes. Installs happen all summer and fall. Tropical weather can shift the schedule, so build in some flexibility, especially from mid-August to mid-October.
When should I order impact windows if I want them before storm season?
Start in late winter or early spring. Lead times vary by product and time of year, so ask for an estimated lead time when you get your proposal.
Is there a cheaper time of year to replace windows?
We can't point to a reliable "off-season" price. Cost mostly depends on the products, sizes and installation scope. See our window cost guide for the factors.
Is it too hot in summer to replace windows?
No. Summer installs are common in Louisiana. Each opening is open for only part of the job, and crews plan around heat and afternoon storms.
